Arsenal’s Danny Welbeck to face no retrospective action from UEFA for alleged dive

Written by on 19/03/2018

Danny Welbeck will not face any retrospective action for an alleged dive during Arsenal’s 3-1 Europa League win over AC Milan last Thursday.

The Gunners forward went down after a challenge from left-back Ricardo Rodriguez to win, and then convert, a penalty to level the game.

UEFA’s disciplinary body have since reviewed the incident and have decided to take no further action against Welbeck, meaning he will be available for the first leg of Arsenal’s quarter-final clash against CSKA Moscow on April 5.

When questioned over the incident after the match, manager Arsene Wenger said: “I haven’t seen it again. I will watch it again and give my honest feeling about it.

“I will give him my honest feeling about it as well [if I view it as a dive], don’t worry.

“There’s two things: was it a penalty or not? I don’t know. The Italian players were unhappy with it. I can understand that, because I don’t really know what it was.”
