Aaron Colvin says Jacksonville Jaguars must nullify Tom Brady threat to reach Super Bowl LII

Written by on 18/01/2018

Aaron Colvin believes nullifying the threat of New England Patriots’ Tom Brady will be vital as the Jacksonville Jaguars bid to reach Super Bowl LII.

The Jaguars, who had not been to the playoffs in a decade before this season, are now one win away from reaching the Minnesota showpiece, live on Sky Sports, on Sunday, February 4.

Cornerback Colvin helped the Jaguars, one of four franchises to never play in the Super Bowl, stun the Pittsburgh Steelers 45-42 last weekend to book their spot in the AFC Championship Game against the top-seeded and defending champions on Sunday, live on Sky Sports Action.

When asked whether stopping Brady, winner of five Super Bowl rings, would limit the Patriots’ threat, Colvin told Sky Sports News: “Of course. When you cut the head off the snake it definitely starts with him.

“He is a great player. Everybody knows he is one of the best to ever play the game. But at the same time he has got to see us. We have a great defence and we are ready to go out there and dominate as usual.”

Colvin admitted the Jaguars would go into the contest against the Patriots at the Gillette Stadium “respecting” both Brady and what they have achieved, but refused to be daunted by the challenge.

“I don’t care how much experience they have, I don’t care how much they have done in the past,” Colvin added.

“This is a new day, it is 2018 and I feel we are a team that can beat anybody in the NFL right now.

“We definitely go in respecting him, the Patriots and all that they have done but we have put in a lot of work to be here as well.”

Jaguars team-mate Jalen Ramsey told supporters he was confident they were going to win the Super Bowl after their victory over the Steelers, and Colvin said his belief is shared within their dressing room.

Colvin said: “He (Ramsey) is the guy that is going to say whatever is on his mind and of course we are going to back him up.

“We definitely feel the same way. Going into this game we know the challenges, what we have to do, but if we play our game things should take care of itself.”

The 26-year-old described the mood surrounding their support base as at an “all-time high” and admitted he was already dreaming of Super Bowl triumph next month.

Colvin said: “I can’t wait to hold up that trophy one day.”
