A range of NHS roles on offer at recruitment event

University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMBT) is set to host a recruitment event for key workers this month.

A number of roles are on offer at hospital sites across Morecambe Bay including clinical and non-clinical support workers, patient environment assistants (porters), domestics, catering staff, and Nurses and Midwives looking to return to practice.

The event will be held at The Forum in Barrow-in-Furness on 17th November 2022 between 10am – 4pm.

Clinical support workers

Clinical support workers work in support and under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN), providing nursing care and assistance to patients within defined parameters specified by the Registered Nurse.

Daily tasks for a Clinical Support Worker could include recording patient information, providing basic patient care and documenting that care in the patient records and undertaking clinical skills such as pressure relieving care, personal care and assisting patients with meals and drinks.

Domestics

New national standards of cleanliness were released earlier in 2021 which the Trust is required to meet. The standards demand that 50 elements plus touch point cleaning are required. Recent CQC reports on Medical Unit 2 at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary have also highlighted a need for enhanced cleaning regimes.

In particular, the Domestic Team is aiming to recruit domestics who can work shifts to cover the gaps in service from 3pm to 5pm which are often harder to fill. The team has also brought in an 8am to 8pm cleaning service so there is always a domestic presence on the wards where practical.

Patient Environment Assistant (Porter)

The aim of the Patient Environment Assistant (Porter) role is to support the clinical teams in maintaining the optimum environment for our patients.

The main duties are to support patient movement, removal and disposal of waste, handling of medical gases. You should be hard working, punctual and able to work on your own initiative or as part of a team.

Catering Assistant

Ideally you should have a good working knowledge of a busy food service environment, preferably already holding your Foundation Food Hygiene Certificate. Full training and support are given on induction with further training opportunities available in the department as they arise as we are committed to the ongoing development of our staff.

The main duties when working for the catering department are varied as the service covers both patient and staff/visitor food services so involves working in production areas within the main kitchens, ward patient meal service, restaurant service, sandwich production for all the Trust’s three sites and pan and pot wash duties. As hygiene is paramount in our areas, staff are expected to maintain their workplace, and keep it clean, safe, and hygienic.
