A galaxy not so far, far away: Disneyland prepares to open Star Wars universe

Stormtroopers will control crowds of fans at Disneyland’s new $1bn (£790m) Star Wars universe when it opens on Friday.
British actor John Boyega, who plays Finn in the sci-fi movie saga, shared a photo on Instagram of the Galaxy’s Edge attraction complete with its staff as the California park prepares for huge crowds over the first few weeks.
The image was originally taken and shared by Disneyland park president Josh D’Amaro, who wrote: “So proud to introduce you to the inhabitants of Batuu!
“I want to thank this amazing team for their incredible dedication and passion. Yesterday’s Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Cast rally was unforgettable. This photo is one for the ages!”
For the first three weeks from its opening on 31 May, guests will have a four-hour limit within the park and can only get in if they have made a reservation.
Visitors will have wristbands to identify the time they arrived and once their limit is up, they won’t be able to access attractions or shops.
Kris Theiler, vice president of the Disneyland park, said: “There might be some First Order officers out there helping us or maybe some Stormtroopers asking people to move along.
“We’ll employ the First Order maybe later in the reservation period if we need to.”
Galaxy’s Edge will be the largest single-theme land inside Disney, at 14 acres.
It will have rides and merchandise including droids and lightsabers as well as Star Wars-appropriate food and drink.
The park is designed to be a grungy outpost on a distant planet, and its main attraction is a massive replica of the Millennium Falcon.
Guests can walk through the Falcon’s halls and have a dogfight with the TIE fighters.
