The body of one of the "Disappeared" victims of the Northern Ireland Troubles has been found buried in a French forest.
Teacher Seamus Ruddy was abducted from Paris in 1985 then murdered and buried by republican paramilitary group INLA. He was 32 at the time.
The Independent Commission for the Location of Victims’ Remains (ICLVR) announced on Saturday that it had discovered a body at Pont-de-l’Arche, near Rouen, in northern France.
Now DNA profiling by French investigators has confirmed the remains are those of Mr Ruddy.
There have been a number of previous searches in the same forest area for Mr Ruddy, who was from Co Down, most recently by the ICLVR in 2008.
ICLVR experts, who rely on those with knowledge of the crimes to come forward and provide information without fear of prosecution, were confident that guidance they were acting on was accurate this time.
The latest discovery means three of the 16 Disappeared victims remain missing.
Remains of Columba McVeigh, Joe Lynskey and Robert Nairac have not been found.
