Man dies after being hit by falling tree branch in Liverpool

Written by on 11/02/2020

A man in his 60s has been killed by a falling tree branch in Liverpool.

He had been walking his dog in Black Wood in the Woolton area of the city.

Merseyside Police said: “We can confirm that the man hit by the falling tree branch in Black Wood in Woolton has sadly passed away.

“The man, who is in his 60s and from the Liverpool area, has now been identified and his next of kin have been informed.

“Road closures remain in place in the area.”

The woodland where the man died is run by the city council, which said in a statement: “The council is shocked and saddened to hear of this death and all thoughts are with the gentleman’s family and friends.

“The ancient woodland belongs to Liverpool City Council and the council will co-operate fully with any subsequent investigation.”

It comes as high winds continue to cause disruption across the UK.

The Met Office has announced that Storm Dennis will hit the country at the weekend, offering little reprieve from the windy weather.

Warnings also remain in place across the country in the aftermath of Storm Ciara.

A man from Micheldever in Hampshire died on the A33 after a tree fell on to his Mercedes just before 4pm on Sunday as a result of the storm.

On Tuesday, heavy snow fell in parts of the UK, with flights, ferries and trains still facing disruption.

A yellow snow and ice weather warning remains in place for Northern Ireland and Scotland into Wednesday, threatening communities with more disruption.
