Police appeal after men ‘with knives and swords’ overrun and rob petrol station

Written by on 18/12/2019

Dozens of men believed to have been wielding knives and a sword have been filmed descending on a petrol station on motorbikes and stealing from the store during a Halloween rampage in Greater Manchester.

Police have released CCTV of the chaotic scenes in the forecourt of a Shell station in Wythenshawe on 31 October, showing a large group arriving on the scene before entering the shop and taking a number of items.

It is believed the same group engaged in several cases of anti-social behaviour in the local area that night, including driving dangerously on the motorway, driving on pavements and blocking roads.

Some of the men – who were seen repeatedly between the hours of 6pm and 11pm – were believed to be in possession of weapons including knives and a sword, police said.

Officers want to speak to anyone who may know about the men or has dashcam footage from the night, with the group seen on Altrincham Road and South Moor Road near Wythenshawe Hospital – and in Wythenshawe Park.

PC Gavin Jackson, of Greater Manchester Police’s City of Manchester division, said the “widespread disturbance” across the areas of Wythenshawe and Sale had “caused large amounts of distress to residents”.

“We believe the men on bikes shown on the CCTV footage at the petrol station were the same group who were causing mass anti-social behaviour elsewhere that night,” he added.

Anyone with information can contact police on 0161 856 4882 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 – images or video and dashcam footage can be sent to operation.sandwell@gmp.police.uk
