Mel B says dispute with Tesco was due to ‘miscommunication’

Mel B has said her dispute with Tesco over the use of an image was down to a “miscommunication”.
The singer, whose real name is Melanie Brown, complained on Instagram after a photo of her was used in an advert for the supermarket chain’s Clubcard Plus.
Tesco responded by saying it had permission to use the image but had decided to stop using it on Monday.
The advert, which played on the Spice Girls’ hit single “Stop”, read: “Stop right now. You get 10% off two big shops a month for £7.99.”
The singer, also known as Scary Spice, clarified why she had criticised the ad in an Instagram post on Tuesday.
She wrote: “There was NEVER any issue about me being unhappy with my image being used and there was NEVER any issue about Tesco being given permission to use the image.
“I did this campaign for Women’s Aid to raise awareness and raise to funds.
“There was a miscommunication between some of the parties dealing with it but luckily Tesco has been amazing.”
Brown reportedly thought the Women’s Aid charity would feature more prominently in the supermarket’s campaign.
She continued in her post: “Tesco understands how important Women’s Aid is to me, and has agreed to match my fee in donation to the charity.”
It is unclear whether Tesco will now use the advert, which features a 1997 image of the singer in a leopard print catsuit.
The advert was part of the chain’s latest campaign that features cultural references from the past 100 years for its 100th anniversary, with the tagline: “Prices that take you back.”
Other celebrities, including comedy duo Morecambe and Wise, have also been used.
