Woman has top of lip bitten off at Notting Hill Carnival by man who said he was ‘the devil’

Written by on 02/09/2019

A woman attending the Notting Hill Carnival had part of her top lip bitten off by a “violent and dangerous” man who told her he was “the devil”.

The Metropolitan Police said the victim had suffered “life-changing” injuries as a result of the “horrific” attack.

She was at the annual event in central London on 25 August when she was approached by a man she did not know.

He spoke to her before he leaned in and attacked her, police said.

It happened at around 6pm on Portobello Road, close to the junction with Golborne Road.

The victim was left shocked and was bleeding heavily when she was approached by police officers who escorted her to the nearest first aid post.

She was then taken to a west London hospital and underwent an operation for her facial injuries.

Police said she would require further surgery in the future.

The suspect has been described as a black man with short black hair and of muscular build. He was wearing a black T-shirt at the time.

The force is appealing for anyone with information about the attack to come forward.

DCI Driss Hayoukane said: “This was a horrific incident on a woman who has suffered life-changing injuries requiring extensive surgery.

“The man who did this is clearly a violent and dangerous individual and I am determined that we identify and apprehend him as soon as possible.”

Anyone with any information can contact police on 101.
