Murder investigation after boy, 16, stabbed to death in northwest London

A 16-year-old boy stabbed to death in northwest London was being chased by three young men armed with a machete, according to a witness.

They were “screaming and laughing” as they pursued the victim through Munster Square in Camden at about 11.10pm on Monday, the observer said.

The teenager then banged on a family’s front door and called for help before he was stabbed, she added.

“I was just in my room and all I heard was screaming and shouting,” said the witness, who wanted to remain anonymous.

“Through my bedroom window I could see everything.

“We just saw the three boys holding him. He said ‘help me, help me, help me’.

“He collapsed on the floor and then it was quiet.”

The victim’s stomach was visibly bloodied, she said, adding that the attackers fled in a car.

The boy was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

No arrests have been made but Scotland Yard has opened a murder investigation.

On Tuesday morning a large police cordon remained in place at the scene and stretched across a number of nearby roads.

A man who lives near to the scene of the attack said he saw the boy’s body covered and lying near a doorstep.

The man, who did not want to be named, said: “I saw a lot of people here, ambulance, police and our community people.”

The square has recently become a hotspot for drug-taking and large groups of men regularly gather there, he said.

In Munster Square a first aid bag could be seen on the pavement close to a bollard, with white sheeting on the ground outside a block of flats.

Flowers have been left at the scene as a tribute to the young victim.
