Nora Quoirin: Parents thank Malaysian teams searching for missing daughter

Written by on 10/08/2019

The parents of a London teenager missing for nearly a week in Malaysia have thanked search teams and hailed their dedication.

Meabh and Sebastien Quoirin, whose 15-year-old daughter Nora has not been seen since last Sunday, said “terima kasih” – “thank you” in Malay – to those taking part in the major operation to find her.

Despite intensive efforts no trace, has been found of the vulnerable youngster, who was born with the brain defect holoprosencephaly and needs help with day-to-day living.

Speaking in a video broadcast on local media, Mrs Quoirin, flanked by her husband and fighting back tears, said: “We want to say thank you to each and every one of you. We know you’re searching night and day for Nora.

“We see you working so hard and also praying with us and being with us.”

She also thanked the rescuers for giving up their time during Hari Raya Haji, the Islamic “festival of sacrifice” celebrations.

Praising their commitment, she said: “To be with us here, it means the world to us. We are so grateful for everything that you are doing for us, everyone who is helping here and not from here.

“We are extremely impressed by the effort, your expertise, your dedication and we hope you find Nora.

“And thank you so much and terima kasih.”

The Quoirins, an Irish-French family who have lived in London for 20 years, had been on holiday at the Dusun forest eco-resort in southern Negeri Sembilan state when their daughter disappeared.

Nora, who has an Irish passport, had been to Asia and many European countries before, but had never wandered off or got lost, according to her family.

While police have been investigating “all angles” in her disappearance, her parents believe she has been abducted.

Meanwhile, Irish band Westlife have appealed to fans to help find the missing teenager during a concert in Malaysia.

Band member Nicky Byrne told the 7,000-strong crowd: “If you know anything about Nora’s disappearance, come forward.

“We are from the same country so this feels very close to us. We wish her family, who must be devastated, much love.

“If you have any information, please go to the authorities.”
