Thousands stranded or delayed after signal failure at London Euston
Written by News on 08/08/2019
Thousands of rail passengers have been stranded or delayed after all lines were blocked in and out of London’s Euston Station.
The major disruption, which includes severe delays and cancellations, was caused by a fault with the signalling system.
National Rail said the delays could last up to an hour and the disruption was expected to continue into this evening.
It later said all lines at Euston had reopened after power had been restored and services were beginning to get back to normal.
Among those affected were those passengers who were hoping to use Virgin Trains services tonight.
The company is advising customers to travel tomorrow if possible and their tickets will still be valid.
A tweet from Virgin Trains said: “We’re currently expecting severe delays, alterations and cancellations to services in/out of London Euston.
“This is due to a fault with the signalling system causing all lines to be blocked at Euston until further notice. We’d advise you to travel tomorrow where possible.”
Euston said power was back up again but significant disruption was still expected.
A tweet from the station said: “Power has been restored at Euston and signals are now working again.
“We’re sorry to passengers as significant disruption is expected while trains get back to normal.
