Boy’s death ‘unexplained’ after he is found unconscious in Ystrad Mynach Park

A 13-year-old boy has died after being found unconscious in a park in Ystrad Mynach, South Wales.
Police say they are treating his death as unexplained.
The teenager was found in Ystrad Mynach Park, Caerphilly Road, at around 7.20pm on Friday.
He was pronounced dead after being taken to University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff, 12 miles away.
A school in nearby Pengam said the boy was one of it pupils but did not name him.
Lewis School posted on Facebook: “We’ve woken this morning to the devastating news that one of our pupils sadly passed away last night.
“At such an awful time I’m sure that everyone in our community will join with us in passing on our deepest condolences and sympathy to everyone touched by this tragic event.
“Support will be made available to any pupils or staff in the weeks ahead but in the meantime our thoughts are with the family, we literally have no words…”
Detective Chief Inspector Sam Payne said: “At this time enquiries are ongoing and the investigation into this young boy’s death are still in the early stages.
“Specialists are working to determine the exact cause of death and our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time.”
