Baby dies week after car hit his pram and killed his mother

Written by on 22/01/2019

A baby seriously injured when a car hit his pram and killed his mother has died a week after the accident.

Luciano Newman, who was eight months old, was critically injured in the collision in Penge, south London, on Sunday 13 January.

His 23-year-old mother, Nicole Newman, was pushing the pram at the time and died at the scene.

Luciano died on Sunday.

The driver – who was not arrested – stopped his car and has been co-operating with police.

He was also taken to hospital after the crash – which happened at around 8.08pm – but his injuries were not serious.

Police are urging witnesses and anyone with dashcam footage – including from the minutes leading up to the collision – to come forward.

Local residents are raising money for the funerals. More than £2,800 of a £3,000 target has already been pledged on GoFundMe.

A post on the website says: “Sadly, this campaign is now raising money for two funerals. Luciano, the baby that was injured in the crash, has passed away and is now back in the arms of his mother.

“It is incredibly sad and I can’t imagine what the family are going through.

“If you’ve not donated yet please do so, and please continue to share and thank you for all the support.”
