Brexit political declaration: What you need to know

Theresa May has claimed she has secured the “right deal” following the publication of the draft political declaration on the UK’s future relationship with the EU.
The prime minister will travel to Brussels this weekend in the hope EU leaders will sign off on the 26-page document, which – despite not being legally binding – sets out the framework for the UK’s post-Brexit ties with the bloc.
However, opposition parties have already attacked the document over its vague wording, while Tory Brexiteers have lined up to condemn the draft statement as a “betrayal” and a “surrender”.
