Man charged with stealing £8,500 electric bicycle from Premier League star Cesc Fabregas

Written by on 10/10/2018

A man has been charged with stealing a £8,500 electric bicycle from Premier League footballer Cesc Fabregas.

Vlad Grigoruta, 24, is accused of taking the Greyp G12S, which had been customised for the Spain and Chelsea midfielder.

The bike can reach top speeds of 43mph (70kmph), according to the manufacturer’s website.

It is said to have been stolen from an address linked to the World Cup winner in Belgravia, central London.

Grigoruta, from Harrow, Middlesex, is charged with the theft of a pedal bicycle on 21 February and two counts of fraud in March.

The fraud charges, outlined in court documents, state he created an email account using Fabregas’ name.

He is accused of using the email address “fabregasc332@gmail.com” to send emails to Greyp in a bid to access and change the security code and finger print readers of the electric cycle.

Greyp Bikes’ head of sales Dominik Vrbanac wrote about the alleged theft in a blog post on the Croatian company’s website last month.

He said the custom G12S was produced as a “surprise” for “world-famous football player Cesc Fabregas”.

Mr Vrbanac added: “The design team did a marvellous job with the already marvellous bike and Cesc appreciated it.”

He said the bike was recovered and returned to Fabregas.

Grigoruta is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
