England delayed by rain on day two against Pakistan at Headingley

Written by on 02/06/2018

England’s bid for a healthy first-innings lead over Pakistan in the second Test at Headingley was delayed with rain wiping out the opening session on day two.

SCORECARD | TEXT COMMENTARY

Stuart Broad, James Anderson and Chris Woakes snared three wickets apiece and debutant Sam Curran bagged the other as England bundled out Pakistan for 174 on day one in Leeds.

Alastair Cook (46) – in his record-setting 154th Test in a row – and the recalled Keaton Jennings (29) helped the hosts to 106-2 by stumps, a deficit of just 68 runs.

However, the wet weather prevented Joe Root (29no) and Dom Bess (0no) from pressing on in a game England must win to level the two-Test series having been beaten by nine wickets at Lord’s last week.

Drizzle and potential thunderstorms are forecast for much of Saturday, though the weather is expected to clear up over the following three days.
