Joe Root and Alastair Cook fall for ducks in the County Championship
Written by News on 04/05/2018
Joe Root was out for a golden duck in his first Specsavers County Championship game of the season as Yorkshire were skittled for 50 by Essex at Chelmsford.
The England Test captain edged his first ball from Essex paceman Sam Cook (5-29) to former England skipper Alastair Cook at first slip as Yorkshire subsided in 18.4 overs after electing to bat. SCORECARD
Alastair Cook was also dismissed for nought as Essex began their reply, snicking the sixth ball he faced, bowled by Jack Brooks, to Yorkshire wicketkeeper and England team-mate Jonny Bairstow.
Bairstow, also playing in the Championship for the first time this season, had earlier been bowled by Sam Cook for seven, with Gary Ballance (22) the only Tykes batsman to make double figures.
Peter Siddle bagged 4-7 from his 3.4 overs, including Ballance caught behind, while Jamie Porter scoped the other wicket to fall when he trapped India’s Cheteshwar Pujara lbw for nine.
