New Zealand cricket fan pockets $50,000 for catch during England ODI match

Written by on 28/02/2018

A New Zealand cricket fan had plenty of reasons to celebrate his trip to Mount Maunganui after he pocketed 50,000 NZ dollars (£26,000) with a terrific catch during the second ODI international against England.

The Black Caps may have fallen to a six-wicket defeat after fifties from Ben Stokes and Eoin Morgan allowed England to level the series at 1-1, but the supporter took full advantage of his chance to collect the valuable prize on offer to members of the crowd.

Jos Buttler, who secured victory for the tourists, was on his way to an unbeaten 26 when he pulled a ball from the experienced Tim Southee which cleared fine-leg, and the fan maintained his composure to take a one-handed catch.

The Tui Catch A Million campaign allows fans to scoop the bumper prize on offer by taking a one-handed catch when a batsman hits a six.
