Dead babies’ ashes stolen in two burglaries

A box holding the ashes of twins who died at birth has been stolen in a burglary in London.
In a separate incident a day later, another baby’s ashes were taken from a house in Belfast.
The London theft happened in Richmond on Monday, with the maroon box that held the ashes taken along with jewellery.
"This has been a heartbreaking ordeal for the victim, who desperately wants her children’s ashes returned," said Detective Constable Rajinder Chana.
"They are of no value to those who stole them, and we would ask that they be returned as soon as possible.
"Burglary is a particularly invasive crime but this offence has been made worse by what was taken."
The theft in Belfast, on Tuesday evening, involved a small see-through bag being stolen that contained the ashes of the woman’s baby daughter.
It happened in the Ballygomartin Road.
Inspector Paul Noble, from the Police Service of Northern Ireland, said: "Understandably, this has left the victim extremely distressed; therefore, we are appealing to whoever entered the property last night to please do the right thing and return the bag to police."
Anyone with information on both thefts is asked to contact police or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
