Man City midfielder David Silva a doubt for derby with Man Utd

Written by on 06/12/2017

David Silva is an injury doubt for Manchester City’s derby with Manchester United on Sunday, Pep Guardiola has confirmed.

The City boss revealed Silva "felt uncomfortable" following his match-winning 83rd-minute goal against West Ham at the Etihad last weekend.

Silva has not travelled with the City squad to Ukraine for their final Champions League group-stage match with Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday, and Guardiola is unsure if he will be available for Sunday’s highly-anticipated derby, which is live on Sky Sports Premier League.

"David had a little bit of problems in the last minutes," Guardiola said during Tuesday’s pre-match news conference.

"We made a test after the game and I don’t know if he is able to play on Sunday, so that’s why he stayed there, to recover in Manchester."

Guardiola was asked for further clarification on the nature of the injury but was unwilling to elaborate.

He said: "It’s something, something uncomfortable he felt in the last minutes, before the goal he felt something."

After being asked again, Guardiola laughed and said: "Hopefully he can be fit for Sunday but it was too risky to play him [Wednesday]."

The Spanish international has played a key role in City’s unbeaten start to the season, recording eight assists and two goals in 15 games.

City sit top of the Premier League, eight points ahead of rivals United, having dropped just two points so far this campaign.
