Human remains found in a reservoir have been confirmed as those of a woman who was murdered by her husband 20 years ago.
DNA tests on the remains show they belong to 53-year-old Sandie Bowen, Gwent Police said.
They were discovered in Wentwood Reservoir, near Newport, South Wales, last month.
Sandie Bowen was murdered by her husband Mike in 1997, but he never revealed where he hid her body.
Police believe he attacked her in a fit of temper at their home in Llandogo, Monmouthshire, after he discovered she was having an affair.
Her blood and false teeth were found at the house.
Bowen, a forestry worker, served 15 years of a life sentence after being convicted of the killing in 1998.
Throughout his murder trial, he denied any involvement in her disappearance, claiming he had dropped her off in the centre of Newport to catch a bus or train to Folkestone, Kent.
He finally admitted to the murder in 2003, but continued to refuse to disclose where his wife’s body was buried.
A Gwent Police spokeswoman said: "A post-mortem examination of the body has since been carried out and forensic analysis of a sample of DNA which was extracted from the bones have confirmed that the body is that of Sandra Bowen.
"Sandra’s family has been notified of the result of the DNA analysis and specialist officers are offering support to them."
