Wolverhampton stabbing: Man kills sister and critically injures mum before turning knife on himself
Written by News on 09/03/2017
A man killed his sister and critically injured his mother in a knife attack at a block of flats in Wolverhampton – then turned the knife on himself.
Officers used stun grenades as they stormed the first-floor flat and attempted to subdue the knifeman on Wednesday morning.
The sister, aged 33, died at the scene in Leasowes Drive, in the Merry Hill area of the city, while the 36-year-old male suspect was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.
The mother, aged 59, has been taken to hospital where she has undergone surgery for serious stomach injuries. She remains in a critical condition.
Two police officers were treated after one was stabbed in the arm and the other suffered a leg injury while being chased by the attacker. Neither was seriously hurt.
Images showed three air ambulances on a nearby playing field and armed officers outside the Highfield Court block of flats.
Unarmed officers who initially attended the scene were reported to have unsuccessfully attempted to deploy their Taser, before calling for armed backup and a dog unit.
Residents were ordered out of the flats by police, the Wolverhampton Express and Star reported.
A nearby primary school was also on lockdown after the attack.
Post-mortems will take place later this week.
The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) is now investigating the incident.
