Revealed: Liverpool v Man Utd XIs chosen by SkySports.com readers

Written by on 13/10/2017

SkySports.com readers were asked to pick your first XIs for Saturday’s Liverpool v Manchester United clash, and now we have the results…

The two rivals go head to head at Anfield, live on Sky Sports Premier League from 11.30am, with the hosts looking to record their first home victory since beating Arsenal 4-0 on August 27.

Using our interactive team selector, we asked you to be the boss, and the results were interesting…

Liverpool (4-3-3)

Mignolet; Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Lovren, Robertson; Can, Henderson, Wijnaldum; Coutinho, Salah, Firmino

With Sadio Mane missing through injury, Liverpool fans have gone for a front trio of Philippe Coutinho, Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino.

All eyes will be on Brazilian pair Coutinho and Firmino, who returned to training on Thursday following a long journey back from South America on Wednesday evening.

Reds fans have gone with the three forwards rather than out-and-out striker Daniel Sturridge, who we would expect to see come off the bench.

There are no real surprises in midfield, with Emre Can, Jordan Henderson and Gini Wijnaldum propping up the front three.

Liverpool fans fancy the youth of Trent Alexander-Arnold at right-back over alternative Joe Gomez, while Andrew Robertson gets the nod at left-back ahead of Alberto Moreno. Simon Mignolet is preferred in goal to Loris Karius.

Man Utd (4-2-3-1)

De Gea; Valencia, Bailly, Jones, Young; Matic, Herrera; Mata, Mkhitaryan, Rashford; Lukaku

SkySports.com readers’ Manchester United side doesn’t raise too many questions, with the starting XI more or less as you would expect.

Readers want to see Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young continuing their good form at full-back, while the only real surprise sees Ander Herrera in central midfield having made the starting XI just once this season in the Premier League.

That would mean Marouane Fellaini, often utilised by Mourinho in tricky away clashes, would be on the bench.

Herrera would sit alongside Nemanja Matic, while Juan Mata, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Marcus Rashford would sit in a three behind Romelu Lukaku.
