Jon Driscoll takes a lighter look back at an eventful opening weekend in La Liga, including red cards, bad tempers and a smattering of great goals.

Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann was sent off against Girona for a combination of diving and dissent, while Sergio Ramos also saw red for Real in their 3-0 win over Deportivo.

Then there’s Lionel Messi, who hit the post three times for Barcelona as they started their campaign with a 2-0 win over Real Betis.

And what about goal of the weekend?

Well, it’s a toss-up between Real’s 44-pass move for Casemiro’s finish against Depor or Angel Correa’s stunning hit against Girona. You be the judge.
