Tom Westley completed his maiden fifty as England advanced to 153-2 before lunch on day four of the third Test, increasing their lead over South Africa to 331.
Debutant Westley, 28 not out overnight, grafted to reach his half-century off 119 balls – reaching the landmark with a clipped four through midwicket off Morne Morkel.

South Africa claimed just one wicket before lunch – that of Keaton Jennings (48), who gloved a surprise bouncer from Kagiso Rabada to Chris Morris in the gully.
His departure ended a second-wicket stand worth 62 – Westley and Root bringing up their own 50-run partnership off 99 balls.
Westley scored just nine runs from 54 balls in 85 minutes, miscuing deliveries from Morkel and Rabada as he consistently targeted the leg-side but did not offer a chance, while Root helped himself to 10 off one particular wayward over from Morris.
At lunch Westley was unbeaten on 50, with Root 38 not – the home side’s advantage highlighted by the fact that the highest successful run chase at the Oval is 263-9 scored by England against Australia in 1902.
