58,000 pregnancy tests sold in UK recalled amid inaccurate results

More than 58,000 pregnancy tests that were sold in the UK have been recalled after some returned inaccurate results.
People who bought Clear & Simple digital pregnancy tests have been urged to check the lot number after a small number returned false positives.
The affected tests have the lot number DM10220170710E printed on the end of the box and sachet, and have an expiry date of January 2020.
An announcement by manufacturer Guangzhou Wondfo Biotech only concerned these pregnancy tests.
The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) said people who have purchased affected tests are advised to seek alternative testing methods and refer any affected tests to their pharmacy or shop.
“If you have any questions about using digital pregnancy tests, please speak to your healthcare professional,” a spokesperson for the MHRA said.
In normal circumstances positive results are almost always accurate, according to NHS advice, while negative tests are less likely to be completely reliable.
Pregnancy tests work by detecting human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG), a hormone produced during pregnancy, in urine.
