Meghan Markle attends Invictus Games opening but does not sit with Prince Harry

Written by on 25/09/2017

Prince Harry’s girlfriend, Meghan Markle, appeared at the opening ceremony of the Invictus Games but did not sit with the Prince.

There had been speculation that the Suits actress might join him for the event in Toronto as she lives and works in the city.

But as pictures showed Prince Harry sitting alongside First Lady Melania Trump, it at first seemed that Meghan was not coming.

But then photographs started to appear on social media of Meghan sitting in a separate section of seating from Prince Harry at the Air Canada Centre with her friend Markus Anderson, who it is believed may have introduced the couple last summer.

Harry and Meghan will have chosen deliberately to sit apart to try and not distract too much from the important message behind the Invictus Games.

They were established in 2014 by Prince Harry who got the inspiration to help wounded and sick military personnel and their families after his two tours of duty in Afghanistan.

In a passionate speech in front of competitors and their families Prince Harry said: "Some of you have cheated death and come back stronger than before.

"Some of you have overcome emotional challenges that until very recent years would have seen you written off and ignored. And now you are here. On the world stage. Flags on your chests. Representing your countries again."

In a recent interview with Vanity Fair magazine 36-year-old Meghan revealed that they are a couple who are in love, adding "personally, I love a great love story".

After Meghan’s appearance at the opening ceremony many will now wonder whether the couple will be seen together at some of the sports events during the coming days.

About 550 competitors from 17 countries will compete in 12 sports over the next week.

As well as Mrs Trump, the Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also attended the opening ceremony.
