Paramedic pleads not guilty to 10 sexual offences, including raping patient

Written by on 11/11/2019

A paramedic has pleaded not guilty to committing 10 sexual offences on four women, including two of his patients.

Andrew Wheeler, from Ramsey, Cambridgeshire, is facing seven counts of rape, two counts of sexual assault and one of causing sexual activity without consent from when he was working with the East of England Ambulance Service Trust and volunteering for St John Ambulance.

He is accused of raping and sexually assaulting a patient in 2018 and causing sexual activity without consent against another patient in 2010.

In the 2010 allegation, the 45-year-old defendant is said to have moved the patient’s hand to his genitals, which were covered by his clothing.

Wheeler is also facing five counts of rape against one woman between 2002 and 2013, and one further count of rape and sexual assault from another woman in 2009.

Appearing at Peterborough Crown Court on Monday, Wheeler denied all the charges against him.

He is due to stand trial at Cambridge Crown Court in May next year, with the trial expected to run for between eight and 10 days.

According to Cambridgeshire Police, all the alleged victims are older than 16.
