Morrissey ‘sparks walkout at Glasgow gig after criticising Nicola Sturgeon’

Morrissey reportedly sparked a walkout at a gig in Glasgow after criticising Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon.
The former Smiths frontman is said to have asked the crowd at the SSE Hydro Arena: “I’m curious. Do any of you actually like Nicola Sturgeon?”
According to reports, he then added: “Those hands will be in anybody’s pockets.”
The remarks were greeted by a mixture of boos and cheers, with attendees claiming several people left the concert in protest.
Former SNP MP John Nicolson criticised Morrisey’s outburst, tweeting: “If only Morrissey would stop talking and just sing his old songs we could, perhaps, hold on to our last vestiges of fondness for what he once was.
“(I) was at one of his recent concerts. Love his music. But he’s increasingly hard to like as a man.”

Glasgow was one of only four council districts to vote for independence in the 2014 referendum, and the SNP holds six of the city’s seven seats at Westminster.
Morrissey, who kicked off his first full British tour since 2015 in Aberdeen on Friday, has hit the headlines in recent years for his outspoken views.
He reportedly described Brexit as “magnificent” and claimed last year’s UKIP leadership vote was “rigged” against anti-Islam activist Anne Marie Waters.
He also urged Scotland to vote to leave the UK before its independence referendum in September 2014, saying: “I love Scotland, and I love the Scottish spirit and they do not need Westminster in the least.”
