Boy who was thrown from Tate Modern is out of intensive care – but can’t eat or speak

Written by on 18/10/2019

A French child who was thrown from the 10th floor of the Tate Modern is out of intensive care, his family have announced.

The six-year-old, who cannot be named due to his age, was thrown from the viewing platform of the London art gallery in August.

The boy is currently recovering in a rehabilitation centre, but still cannot speak or eat, his family said in a post on GoFundMe.

They went on to say that he looks like a “little knight” due to the splints keeping his limbs in place as he recovers.

“He still has some metal in his body, but instead of plasters he has got a full armour of splints: legs, feet, hands, arms, neck and torso,” the family wrote.

“He also makes some little progresses – he moves his right hand more and more and arm on command – he catches us most of the time when we are nearby – even if he feels sometimes a little bit sad when he doesn’t manage to do what he tries.”

They added: “We really hope he will speak and eat again as soon as possible, but we know that it can take months.”

So far, more than £108,000 has been raised on the boy’s GoFundMe page to help with his recovery.

“Thank you so much all of you again to help us in our fight, our little boy doesn’t give up, and we neither!” they said.

Teenager Jonty Bravery, 18, is accused of the child’s attempted murder after allegedly throwing him from the platform of the London attraction.

His identity had not been previously known, but a reporting restriction was lifted by Judge Nicholas Hilliard QC after Mr Bravery turned 18.

Mr Bravery, who is from west London, is due to appear in court for a plea hearing next month.
