Deontay Wilder warned Dominic Breazeale that ‘judgement day’ has arrived during their weigh-in on Friday in New York.
The heavyweight pair, whose long-running feud boiled over in Thursday’s press conference, endured a steely silence when they went face-to-face for the last time ahead of their clash in the early hours of Sunday morning at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center.
“There’s nothing more that needs to be said for tomorrow is judgement day,” Wilder said after weighing in.
“When we get in the ring we’re both going to see red and this is what makes a great fight. Our words that we speak, our actions that we’re going to display in the ring this is what makes great fights, don’t you all want great fights?
Wilder (40-0-1, 39 KOs) weighed 223.25lbs, 11lbs heavier than his last fight in December when he floored Tyson Fury twice to salvage a thrilling draw at the Staples Center, Los Angeles.
He continued: “At this point of time in my career I want to show everything. I’m going to look the part and be the part as I always do.
“I’m just happy to be part of the heavyweight division. It’s so exciting right now, it’s on fire right now and I can’t wait for Saturday night.”
When asked whether it was going to be a shootout between the pair, who share 57 knockout wins between them, Wilder answered: “Oh man, this is going to be a blowout.”
Breazeale (20-1, 19 KOs) faces the ‘Bronze Bomber’ hoping to secure an upset and force a rematch with Anthony Joshua after suffering his sole career defeat to the WBA, WBO and IBF champion in 2016.
The Californian, who will enjoy a weight advantage of over 30lbs, tipped the scales at 255.25.
“It’s fight time, nothing else needs to be said, it’s time to fight” said Breazeale, who dismissed suggestions that the bad blood between the pair may affect his performance.
“It motivated me during camp, coming into the fight though, I’m going to act like a professional and put my professional performance on and give the fans what they want to see, that knockout win. Here comes trouble.”
Gary Russell Jr and Kiko Martinez had no problems on the scales ahead of their featherweight limit on the undercard.
WBC champion Russell Jr, whose sole defeat in 30 contests was to pound-for-pound star Vasyl Lomachenko, came in at 125.75lbs, while Martinez was slighter at 124.5lbs.
