Valdez vs Quigg: Preview for fight this weekend live on Sky Sports
Written by News on 11/03/2018
Everything you need to know about Scott Quigg against Oscar Valdez in California, live on Sky Sports from 2am on Sunday.
Background
Bury boxer Quigg was due to challenge for a world title in a second weight class but failed to make weight 24 hours before the first bell.
As a result, Valdez’s WBO featherweight belt will not be up for grabs although the fight will go ahead.
Quigg’s performance against Valdez could still lay down a marker to the rest of the division.
His reaction to losing his world super-bantamweight title to Carl Frampton in 2016 was to up sticks and move to California’s Wild Card gym, under the tutelage of famed trainer Freddie Roach.
That has led him to Valdez. The Mexican is two years younger than Quigg at 27, unbeaten in 23 fights and holder of the WBO title.
Quigg can no longer take that belt home but could return to the UK with a standout victory that may set him up for future challenges.
