Stephen Curry hit 11 three-pointers on his way to scoring 48 points to lead the Golden State Warriors to victory over the Dallas Mavericks.
Golden State Warriors 119-114 Dallas Mavericks
Stephen Curry scored a game-high 48 points – 24 in each half – and dropped the game-winning three-pointer to allow the Golden State Warriors to escape Dallas with a 119-114 victory over the host Mavericks on Sunday night.
Curry, who scored 16 points in the first quarter, made 11 three-pointers and scored the final nine points for the Warriors in a game the Mavs led 113-108 with 3:51 to go in the game.
Kevin Durant scored 28 points and Klay Thompson had 16 on an abysmal shooting night in which he went just 2-of-11 from beyond the arc.
Rookie of the Year favorite Luka Doncic led Dallas with 26 points, making 5-of-10 from beyond the arc and adding five assists and six rebounds.
Forward – and former Warrior – Harrison Barnes scored 22, but as he was trying to get off a game-tying three-point attempt with five seconds to go, Barnes lost control of his dribble and helplessly watched the ball roll out of bounds.
Curry was fouled and drained two free throws to give the Warriors a four-game win streak.
Portland Trail Blazers 113-116 Denver Nuggets
Nikola Jokic had 40 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists and Jamal Murray shook off an injury to score 24 as the host Denver Nuggets beat the Portland Trail Blazers 116-113.
Damian Lillard scored 26 and CJ McCollum had 18 points for Portland.
Murray played most of the game with a sore lip after he took an inadvertent shot to the mouth in the first half. He hit two free throws, left the game to get patched up and then returned.
The Trail Blazers, who had their four-game winning streak snapped, scored the last five of the third period and the first six points of the fourth quarter to go up 94-93.
Murray missed a three-pointer with the game tied at 108, and Lillard missed a baseline jumper on the ensuing possession. Jokic then spun in the lane to break the tie with 1:07 left.
McCollum drained a corner three-pointer with 27.7 seconds left to make it 114-113.
Murray missed with 5.4 seconds left but grabbed his own miss and was fouled. He hit two free throws with three seconds left to make 1t 116-113, and Lillard missed a 33-foot three-pointer at the buzzer.
Houston Rockets 109-116 Orlando Magic
With Aaron Gordon carrying them early before several others stepped up late, the Orlando Magic rallied past the visiting Houston Rockets in the fourth quarter and secured a 116-109 victory.
Terrence Ross, Evan Fournier and DJ Augustin sank three-pointers on successive possessions to key a 16-2 run that began with 4:19 left. Ross delivered Orlando their first lead of the fourth quarter at the 3:12 mark before Fournier helped the Magic reclaim the advantage with a trey 35 seconds later.
Augustin hit a 28-footer at the 1:49 mark and Nikola Vucevic added a bucket at 1:21 to give Orlando their biggest lead at 114-107.
Gordon and Vucevic scored 22 points each, while Fournier added 19. Ross tallied 17 points off the bench as Orlando claimed a fourth consecutive home win, rallying from a 12-point deficit on back-to-back nights. The Magic did the same in beating Boston on Saturday night.
Rockets guard James Harden scored 38 points – along with dishing out 12 assists, grabbing nine rebounds and swiping four steals – to match Kobe Bryant with his 16th consecutive 30-point game, the most in the NBA since 1972-73. However, Harden struggled mightily with his perimeter shooting, missing 16 of 17 three-point attempts. He shot 11-of-32 overall.
Austin Rivers tallied 25 points, his high since joining Houston on Christmas Eve. He shot 10-of-14 overall and 4-for-7 on threes. The remaining Rockets were 2-of-28 from deep.
Cleveland Cavaliers 101-95 Los Angeles Lakers
Cedi Osman scored 20 points and Rodney Hood added 18 as the visiting Cleveland Cavaliers put an end to their 12-game losing streak, hanging on for a 101-95 victory over the struggling Los Angeles Lakers.
Tristan Thompson had 15 points and 14 rebounds, while Alec Burks had 17 points and 13 rebounds as Cleveland won for the first time since December 18 at Indiana.
The Cavaliers are just 9-35 this season and remain the only NBA team that has not reached double digits in victories.
Kyle Kuzma had 29 points and nine rebounds for the Lakers, as injured Los Angeles forward LeBron James watched his current team face his former team while nursing a groin injury. Brandon Ingram had 22 points for the Lakers.
Toronto Raptors 140-138 Washington Wizards (2OT)
Serge Ibaka’s three-pointer with 15.2 seconds remaining lifted the visiting Toronto Raptors to a 140-138 double-overtime win against the stubborn Washington Wizards.
Washington rallied from 19 points down in the third quarter to force overtime and took a 138-136 lead on Thomas Bryant’s short jumper with 31.8 seconds left in the second overtime.
Kawhi Leonard missed on a drive on the ensuing possession but got his own rebound and passed out to Ibaka who hit from 28 feet. Washington’s Otto Porter Jr then missed a three-point attempt and Toronto’s Danny Green added a free throw with 2.8 seconds left.
With no timeouts, the Wizards were unable to get off a final shot.
Leonard registered 41 points and 11 rebounds for the Raptors, who have won five straight to improve their NBA-best record to 33-12. Pascal Siakam had 24 points and 19 rebounds before fouling out.
Bradley Beal overcame a poor start to finish with 43 points, 15 assists and 10 rebounds for Washington, who trailed by 23 points in the first half. Porter finished with 27 points and Trevor Ariza added 23 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds.
Philadelphia 76ers 108-105 New York Knicks
Ben Simmons recorded 20 points, a career-high 22 rebounds and nine assists as the visiting Philadelphia 76ers never trailed, survived a shaky second half and extended their winning streak over the New York Knicks to seven games by holding on for a 108-105 victory.
Simmons finished with his 28th double-double this season and finished just shy of his eighth triple-double.
Joel Embiid returned from missing Friday’s loss to Atlanta due to a sore right ankle and led the 76ers with 26 points while adding eight rebounds and a season-high six blocked shots.
JJ Redick added 13 of his 22 in the fourth quarter while Jimmy Butler contributed 16 as the Sixers shot 46 per cent and outrebounded the Knicks 56-34.
Rookie Kevin Knox scored a career-high 31 points but the Knicks lost for the 17th time in 19 games and dropped their eighth straight home game. Reserve Luke Kornet tied a career-high 23 points while Emmanuel Mudiay added 19 as the Knicks shot 43 per cent.
The Sixers led by 24 late in the first half but the lead was down 83-82 entering the fourth quarter. After Philadelphia scored the first 11 points of the fourth to take a 94-82 lead, the Knicks were within 96-94 on a three-pointer by Knox with 3:02 left but Philadelphia were able to make enough plays to hold on for the win.
Milwaukee Bucks 133-114 Atlanta Hawks
Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 33 points to lead the visiting Milwaukee Bucks to a 133-114 win over the Atlanta Hawks.
Antetokounmpo was given Friday night off to help him deal with ongoing right quad soreness and a left hip contusion. He returned to lead the Bucks in scoring, shooting 9-for-17 from the field and surpassing the 30-point mark for the 18th time this season.
Antetokounmpo, who has attempted the third-most free throws in the NBA, was 14-for-19 from the line. He also had 11 rebounds and four assists.
The Bucks also got 24 points from Eric Bledsoe, giving him 20-plus for the eighth time, along with 10 assists and two steals. Khris Middleton scored 17 and Atlanta native Malcolm Brogdon scored 14.
Rookie Trae Young led the Hawks with 26 points, giving him 20 for the 10th time (though the first time since December 29). Young was just 7-for-16 from the floor but got to the free-throw line 13 times and made 11. He added 10 rebounds and four assists.
The Hawks also got 18 points and seven rebounds from DeAndre’ Bembry, 13 points and 11 rebounds from John Collins, and 13 points and six rebounds from rookie Omari Spellman.
