Luka Doncic recorded his sixth triple-double of the season as the Dallas Mavericks exploded for 74 first-half points on Saturday night in a shocking 126-91 demolition of the Golden State Warriors.
Dirk Nowitzki drained five three-pointers, while Doncic and Maxi Kleber buried four apiece as the Mavericks hit 21 shots from beyond the arc, one shy of their franchise record, and outscored Golden State 63-12 on threes.
The 35-point margin of defeat was the largest of the season at home for Golden State, who chose to rest Stephen Curry, Shaun Livingston and Andrew Bogut.
Dallas scored 37 points in each of the first two quarters to go up 74-46 by halftime, then coasted home as Warriors coach Steve Kerr sat his top players alongside Curry with another game coming up Sunday night against Detroit.
Doncic finished with 23 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists, all game-highs, in 27 minutes. He also found time for three steals.
Nowitzki finished with 21 points, helping the Mavericks earn a four-game split in their season series against the Warriors with their first win at Golden State since April 2012.
Ryan Broekhoff chipped in with 17 points, Kleber 16, Trey Burke 13 and Jalen Brunson 11 for Dallas, who had lost their past 12 games at Golden State.
Kevin Durant had 25 points in 29 minutes for the Warriors, who had won four of their previous five games, with the victories coming by a total of 57 points. Durant missed all eight of his three-point attempts, as Golden State shot just 4-for-30 from deep as a team.
Philadelphia 76ers 127-129 Atlanta Hawks
Rookie point guard Trae Young scored 32 points, including the game-winner with a tenth of a second remaining, to give the Atlanta Hawks a 129-127 win over the visiting Philadelphia 76ers.
The Hawks tied the game 127-127 on a layup by Taurean Prince with 27.5 seconds left, then got a final shot when Philadelphia allowed the 24-second clock to expire.
With 3.5 seconds left, Atlanta’s Kevin Huerter inbounded the ball to Young, who made a floater over Jimmy Butler to put the Hawks ahead. After calling timeout, Philadelphia’s inbounds pass hit the rim to end the game.
The win was the second straight over a playoff team for the Hawks, who beat Utah on Thursday, and broke Philadelphia’s six-game winning streak.
Young finished 11-for-20 from the floor, including 4-for-9 on 3-pointers, and had 11 assists for his 26th double-double. Prince scored 23, with four three-pointers, for his most points since November 11, and Dewayne Dedmon added 17 points.
Philadelphia got 27 points and 12 rebounds from Joel Embiid, 25 points from Butler and 21 points and nine assists from Ben Simmons. Butler was 13-for-13 from the line and scored Philadelphia’s final six points.
Boston Celtics 117-124 Charlotte Hornets
Kemba Walker had 36 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists as the Charlotte Hornets rallied from an 18-point fourth-quarter deficit for a stunning 124-117 victory over the Boston Celtics.
The Hornets closed out the game on a 30-5 run after falling behind 112-94 with 8:21 left in the fourth quarter. Walker keyed it all, and his three-pointer with 1:19 remaining gave his team the lead for good.
Charlotte (33-39) have now won two straight, while the Celtics (43-30) have lost three in a row.
The Hornets also got 20 points from Miles Bridges, 13 each from Marvin Williams and Malik Monk, and 11 from Dwayne Bacon. Williams hit four free throws in the final 41.2 seconds to help salt away the win.
Kyrie Irving led the Celtics with 31 points, and Jaylen Brown scored 29 off the bench. Marcus Morris scored 15, and Terry Rozier and Jayson Tatum finished with 12 points each.
Both teams were severely short-handed. The Celtics were without Al Horford (knee), Gordon Hayward (concussion) and Aron Baynes (ankle), while the Hornets were without Cody Zeller (knee), Nicolas Batum (illness) and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (concussion).
The Celtics remain fifth in the Eastern Conference, a game back from the struggling Indiana Pacers, while the Hornets stayed within 2.5 games of Miami Heat in the eighth and final playoff spot.
Detroit Pistons 112-117 Portland Trail Blazers
Damian Lillard scored 28 points as the Portland Trail Blazers outscored the visiting Detroit Pistons 14-3 over the final four-and-a-half minutes to pull off a 117-112 victory.
Al-Farouq Aminu chipped in a season-high 22 points for the Trail Blazers, who won for the sixth time in seven games.
Blake Griffin tallied 27 points, Reggie Jackson added 24 points and Andre Drummond collected 19 points and 11 rebounds for the Pistons, who lost for only the fourth time in their last 12 games.
Seth Curry scored all 16 of his points and Lillard added 13 in the first half as the Blazers took a 59-56 lead at intermission.
Drummond’s three-point play pushed the Pistons in front 109-103 with 4:28 remaining. Aminu converted a layup to cut it to 109-105, and Moe Harkless followed suit to bring the Blazers to within 109-107 with 2:35 left. Jusuf Nurkic’s layup tied the count at 109-109 with 1:58 to go.
Lillard scored on a four-point play to give Portland a 113-109 lead with 1:37 to play. Nurkic’s dunk increased the difference to 115-109 with 1:17 to go to put the Blazers in control.
Miami Heat 113-108 Washington Wizards
Dwyane Wade scored 11 of his team-high 20 points in the fourth quarter as the visiting Miami Heat defeated the Washington Wizards 113-108.
Miami (36-37) is fighting to hold on to the Eastern Conference’s final playoff spot, and this victory gave the Heat a one-game edge over idle Orlando (35-38), with the two teams to meet on Tuesday.
Wade went 5-for-7 from the field in the fourth quarter as Miami took charge of a game that swung back and forth throughout the first three periods. The veteran guard helped the Heat take a 109-99 lead late.
The Wizards then scored seven straight, but Tomas Satoransky missed a potential game-tying 3-pointer in the final 30 seconds. Wade then fed Kelly Olynyk for a dunk with 16.8 seconds left and a 111-106 lead.
Wade played in Washington for the last time, and the crowd gave him a huge ovation when he entered late in the first quarter.
Balanced scoring proved crucial for Miami as six players finished in double figures. Dion Waiters was right behind Wade with 19 points. Jeff Green led Washington with a game-high 25 points.
Utah Jazz 114-83 Chicago Bulls
Rudy Gobert notched a double-double of 21 points and 14 rebounds, and six other teammates scored in double figures to boost the visiting Utah Jazz to a 114-83 rout of the Chicago Bulls.
Utah raced to a 33-18 lead after one quarter, and its 70-36 halftime lead was its largest on the road at the half in the history of the franchise, which began play in the 1974-75 season in New Orleans.
Donovan Mitchell added 16 points for the Jazz, while Joe Ingles (13), Derrick Favors (13), Ricky Rubio (12), Jae Crowder (11) and Raul Neto (10) followed to complement a balanced attack that overwhelmed the Bulls.
Lauri Markkanen paced the Bulls with a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds. Robin Lopez, Antonio Blakeney and Cristiano Felicio chipped in 10 points apiece.
Utah moved into a tie with the Oklahoma City Thunder and Los Angeles Clippers for the fifth-best record in the Western Conference, one game ahead of the eighth-place San Antonio Spurs.
The Jazz have nine games remaining in the regular season, including six at home and seven against conference foes. Utah is off until Monday, when it is set to open a four-game homestand against the Phoenix Suns.
Phoenix Suns 103-112 Sacramento Kings
Buddy Hield and Harrison Barnes scored 25 points apiece to lead the Sacramento Kings to a 112-103 victory over the Phoenix Suns.
Marvin Bagley III added 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Kings. Nemanja Bjelica recorded 13 points and a career-best 17 rebounds and De’Aaron Fox had 13 points and nine assists.
Hield made seven three-pointers to set a franchise single-season record with 245. He broke the mark of Peja Stojakovic (240 in 2003-04), who is now the club’s assistant general manager.
Devin Booker posted 32 points and 10 assists for the Suns, who lost for the sixth time in the past eight games. Deandre Ayton added 19 points and 11 rebounds, Troy Daniels had 16 points, Richaun Holmes scored 14 points and Mikal Bridges had 11.
The Kings are 5 1/2 games behind the eighth-place San Antonio Spurs for the final Western Conference playoff spot with 10 games remaining.
Sacramento was 17 of 38 from behind the arc and shot 42.4 percent overall. The Suns shot 40.9 percent from the field, including 9 of 34 from behind the arc.
Minnesota Timberwolves 112-99 Memphis Grizzlies
Karl-Anthony Towns totalled 33 points and 23 rebounds as the Minnesota Timberwolves halted a nine-game road losing streak by dominating the third quarter in a 112-99 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies.
The Timberwolves recorded their first road win since beating New York on February 22. They also halted a five-game losing streak, a night after being eliminated from playoff contention.
Towns recorded his seventh straight double-double and 49th of the season. He also recorded his 19th 30-point game and fifth career game with at least 30 points and 20 boards.
The All-Star center reached the double-double early in the third when Minnesota took control by outscoring Memphis 35-18 and shooting 68.4 percent (13-of-19).
Andrew Wiggins added 22 points for the Timberwolves, who shot 48.2 percent. Rookie Josh Okogie contributed 17 points, while Tyus Jones collected 12 and nine assists as the Wolves allowed fewer than 100 points for the 12th time this season.
Mike Conley led Memphis with 23 points after sitting out Friday’s overtime loss in Orlando due to general soreness. He finished the game seven points shy of passing Marc Gasol as the Grizzlies’ all-time leading scorer, and his next chance to break the record is Monday against Oklahoma City.
Jonas Valanciunas added 20 points and 14 rebounds, but Memphis shot just 37.5 percent and saw a four-game home winning streak stopped.
