World-renowned British photographer Rankin has revealed a collection of photographs of celebrities and their mums to celebrate Mother’s Day.

He told Sky News what inspired the project and reveals the priceless advice given to him by his own mum.

Four years ago, as a treat for Mothering Sunday, I gave everyone in my office a golden ticket to be photographed with their mum.

My own mother died ten years ago, and I wanted to remember her, celebrate these amazing superwomen everywhere, and give people the chance to have some quality time with their own wonderful mums.

So, we glammed them up, pampered them and gave everyone a fabulous photoshoot – it was one of the best days at work we’d ever had!

And this year, I decided to do it again, but on a bigger scale and with a wider audience to really spread the message.

It was an honour to meet everyone’s mums and see their relationships.

They reverted to their teenage selves and really showed their personalities.

It was almost like they felt a bit more comfortable to show their authentic selves with their mums by their side – Stacey Dooley and her mum were like a double act!

My parents were so important to me, they gave me confidence to go for a career that I really wanted and gave me advice on doing something I loved.

They were of course critical, but they wanted me to have the freedom to choose.

I remember my father coming to my first show in college and standing next to my stand all night.

After listening to people’s comments, he told me I’d either be incredibly successful or fail miserably – but after that he supported me every step of the way.

My mum always told me that if I found a job I wanted, I’d never work a day in my life – literally the best advice anyone has ever given me.

But although I had a good relationship with her, I wish it had been better, and more than anything I wish I’d had more time to realise this and work on it.

Now that I’m a parent, I finally understand that parenting is hard, and we should appreciate everything they do for us.

I enjoyed this project so much – plus it’s nice to do something, not just to sell a product!

It was a simple, straightforward, no-tricks or gimmicks celebration of people and their relationship with their mums.

The images are going online for now, but we’ll continue to shoot more throughout the year, ready for an exhibition of the entire set for Mother’s Day in 2020.

Big love to all the mums – you deserve it!
