The 26-year-old actress, who plays psychopathic assassin Villanelle in the hit series, revealed she has received some bizarre requests from fans after taking on the role of such a violent character.

Comer said: “A lot of people just look at me in a ‘is it her?’ sort of way.

“Recently I had a really strange one – a woman asked for a photograph with me and then she whispered in my ear: ‘Will you strangle me?’

“I said: ‘No!'”

Killing Eve recently picked up 14 BAFTA nominations – with Comer winning global praise for her performance. She previously starred in Doctor Foster, My Mad Fat Diary and The White Princess.

Sandra Oh plays the MI5 operative Eve Polastri in the drama, who develops a relentless obsession about Comer’s psychopathic killer.

The programme was adapted by Phoebe Waller-Bridge from Luke Jennings’s Codename Villanelle novella series.

Comer told The Graham Norton Show it’s been a “good year” since the series debuted in 2018, but said the show’s success has had consequences.

She explained: “There is a lot more pressure because of expectations and everyone is waiting on tenterhooks for it to come out, but once you start filming, you just have to put that to one side.”

The second series was released this month in the US and is due to air later in the year in the UK.

Two new faces will be joining the cast for the second series.

Nina Sosanya will be one of the new characters, having previously appeared in W1A, Marcella and Last Tango In Halifax.

Edward Bluemel, will also make his debut this series, having had roles in Sky’s A Discovery Of Witches, as well as the Liam Neeson thriller The Commuter.
