The show, based on the 2013 Disney film, will make its debut at the newly refurbished Theatre Royal Drury Lane in 2020.

It was nominated for best musical after opening on Broadway in March 2018.

Writers who penned the film are behind the musical, including Jennifer Lee, Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez.

A number of new songs have been specially written for the show and feature alongside popular hits from the film – including Let It Go, Do You Want To Build A Snowman and For The First Time In Forever.

Frozen tells the story of sisters Anna and Elsa, whose kingdom is stuck in an endless winter because of Elsa’s magical ability to turn things to ice and snow.

The film became the highest-grossing animated film of all time and won two Academy Awards.

In a sign that Frozen fever is unlikely to end soon, parents also have a film sequel to look forward to in November.

The opening of the musical will coincide with the completion of refurbishment works at Theatre Royal Drury Lane.

The Grade I listed building has been given a £45m makeover that includes improved facilities and an expanded front of house.

Performances and casting for the West End production are yet to be announced, but advanced bookings are being taken.

Jennifer Lee, who wrote the book for the musical, said: “We are so humbled by the continued support for Frozen – at its heart is the joyous story about love and sisterhood.

“We’re very excited to share what we have created on stage with London and to see it come to life in that gorgeous theatre.”
