Netflix has tweeted a trailer of the fifth instalment of the hit dystopian series, warning fans “you should’ve seen it coming”.

The award-winning show, from creator Charlie Brooker, will consist of three standalone episodes and will be launched on the streaming giant on 5 June.

Glimpses of the new season show Scott become enraged at people around him constantly on their phones – and then cuts to a scene of him in a car, armed with a gun, as he is surrounded by police.

At one point, he’s seen yelling: “Everywhere you look people are hooked on the things.”

Cyrus is seen portraying a disillusioned pop star who has 20,000 fans to keep entertained at a concert.

Avengers: Endgame star Anthony Mackie also features, with his storyline appearing to relate to a relationship, while there are also other clips showing a teenage girl with no friends, being offered support from a robot doll.

Throughout the trailer, the words “love, privacy, connection, sex, family, work and afterlife” flash up.

The often darkly comic series takes a scathing look at modern society and alternative realities often relating to the overuse of technology.

Brooker’s creation debuted on Channel 4 in 2011 and moved to Netflix in 2016.

The latest episode was a standalone interactive feature-length film called Bandersnatch, starring Will Poulter and Fionn Whitehead, which let viewers choose the fate of the protagonist Stefan.
