Webcam donation keeps Morecambe Bay Hospitals staff connected

Webcams provided by Bay Hospitals Charity have been helping staff teams at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Trust to stay connected while working from home during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Bay Hospitals Charity used the funding from NHS Charities Together for a number of initiatives to promote staff welfare, including funding webcams for the Patient Relations Team at Westmorland General Hospital.
Funding for the project included the millions raised by Captain Tom Moore in the run-up to his 100th birthday.
Patient Relations Manager Janet Garnett said: “Due to Covid the team has been mainly working at home or alone in the office since March 2020. When Bay Hospitals Charity offered free webcams, we gratefully accepted.
“An unfortunate reality of being a remote worker is that it’s easy to feel isolated from your team. Without the freedom to walk into an office of people and see them or share a coffee, it’s hard to feel connected to the people you work with.
“These cameras have helped us remain a strong team, we interact with each other and this technology has made it so much easier.”
As well as using the cameras for work, the team has been able to use them out of office hours for social events and team-building activities.
University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Trust Director of People and Organisational Development David Wilkinson said: “The challenging period we have all been living through has had mental health impacts for all NHS staff, whether they are working in our hospitals or have shifted to remote working.
“People thrive when they work together as teams and have chance to interact with their colleagues, so this project has had a huge positive effect and we’re very grateful to NHS Charities Together, and of course Captain Tom and hundreds of other fund-raisers for making this possible.”
Bay Hospitals Charity funds the latest equipment for University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust to help make patients more comfortable and ensure they get the best possible care and treatment.
