MP secures meeting with health minister to make the case for more funding for mental health provision in Cumbria

On the floor of the House of Commons this morning, South Lakes MP Tim Farron secured a meeting with the health minister to discuss problems surrounding mental health in Cumbria.

Speaking during Health Questions, Tim said: “Underfunding of public health in Cumbria means that the NHS spends only 75p per child per year on preventative mental health care.

“Added to this, over three-quarters of young people with eating disorders are not seen within that target time of a month, and in the event that they are seen there is no specialist one to one eating disorder service to see them despite the Government promising this three years ago.

“Will the minister meet with me and our local NHS so that we can get a better deal for our young people in all three of these points?”

In reply, the health minister Steve Brine said he would be “absolutely interested” to meet with Tim to discuss these issues.
