Full steam ahead for Easter holidays with new activities at Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway

Written by on 29/03/2022

The iconic Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway is full steam ahead for the Easter holidays with an exciting bundle of family-friendly activities, from Easter hunts to free crafts with the RSPB, plus tasty picnic options.

Located in the spectacular coastal area of Ravenglass, the heritage Railway is bringing Easter magic to the scenic journey, with clues hidden up and down the railway line as part of their exciting new ‘Easter Line Quiz’.

Children can hunt for the clues along the 7-mile journey between Ravenglass and Dalegarth stations, with a chocolate reward up for grabs once complete.

The great Easter Line Quiz takes place between 15 – 18 April, at no extra cost to all young visitors to the Railway.

Meanwhile nature-lovers will be delighted to find the RSPB at Ravenglass station on Thursday 14 April, with a huge array of family entertainment including crafts, native wildlife activities and great ways to get involved with important conservation projects at home and in the community.

Along with the Easter activities, families are encouraged to take in the panoramic views of the Western Lake District and hop on and off at stops along the way to explore the many family-friendly walking trails that are found throughout the sparkling Eskdale Valley.

Rachel Bell, Head of Marketing and Development at the Railway, says, “Easter is the perfect time to reconnect with family and enjoy the new spring season and warmer weather. A ride on Ratty is a great way to discover this part of the Western Lake District, with gentle walking trails and a great selection of Easter activities happening across the holidays, perfect for parents looking for family-friendly entertainment.”

Kids can run free at the fantastic outdoor play-areas located at both the Ravenglass and Dalegarth stations, and delicious picnic lunches are also available to pre-order and collect on the day of travel.

Plus visitors can explore 150 years of La’al Ratty at the Ravenglass Museum, which is free entry and features delightful model trains, hands-on interactive displays and special exhibitions.

During 2022 there is an exhibition about the fabulous story behind the recently restored Camping Coaches, Elmira and Maid of Kent, which are now available to book as self-catering accommodation.
