Essential resurfacing to begin on Kendal roads in April

Cumbria County Council will be carrying out essential highway maintenance work on two main roads in Kendal, starting in mid-April.

The county council is investing approx. £400,000 in the works which will involve replacing worn-out sections of road with brand new surfaces on the A6 and the A684.

These works are scheduled to take place in three phases:

• A6 Milnthorpe Road, between Kent Park Avenue and Romney Road, will be resurfaced from Monday 12 April during the evening using two-way temporary traffic lights. Works will last up to two weeks and the new surface will provide a much quieter experience for both road users and local residents.
• A684 Sedbergh Road will be closed between Rusland Park and Castle Road on Monday 26 April for three nights for resurfacing works. Later that week, probably on Thursday 29 and Friday 30 April, the top section of Castle Road will also be closed for resurfacing, between Castle Walk and the A684.
• A684 Ann Street, between Gandy Street and the A6 Longpool, will be closed for resurfacing on Tuesday 4 and Wednesday 5 May.

All the works will take place at night when there is less traffic in order to minimise disruption to road users and local residents. Letters advising of the works will be sent to affected properties and information signs will also be in place to confirm dates and timings.

Sections of the A684 (Sedbergh Road and Ann Street) will be closed from 6.30pm to approx. 1am each night to protect the public and allow the council’s contractor to safely carry out the work. A signed diversion will be in place and access will be maintained for pedestrians.

The works have been timed to take place before the expected further easing of Lockdown restrictions from 17 May. The Council recognises these resurfacing works will inevitably have a temporary impact on the local road network and advises drivers to allow extra time for journeys during this period.

These are key roads in Kendal so we have arranged for the resurfacing works to take place in the evening, outside peak hours, to minimise disruption to road users. We thank local residents and businesses for their patience and understanding during this period.”
