Bolton-le-Sands Library is the latest to reopen

Lancashire County Council’s flagship programme to reopen libraries which closed over a year ago marked another milestone today as Bolton-le-Sands Library became the latest to reopen to the public.
The library on Main Road was reopened this morning (Monday 4 December) by County Councillor Peter Buckley, cabinet member for community and cultural services.
Following the closure of 26 of the county’s 73 libraries by Lancashire County Council towards the end of 2016, a new administration was elected in May, and has decided to re-open as many libraries as possible.
Plans have been agreed in recent months for the phased reopening of libraries, and Bolton-le-Sands is the fourth to reopen following the reopening of Silverdale library, Parbold library and Burnley Campus Library earlier this month. With Silverdale Library having reopened in November, full service has now been restored to all seven libraries in Lancaster. Many more are due to reopen over the coming months.
County Councillor Buckley said: “Local libraries are a vital service at the heart of our communities. Bolton-le-Sands is a large village, and the library provides free access to books, information, and the internet within easy reach.
“We’re committed to reopening libraries wherever they’ve been closed, and I’m very pleased to be able to reopen Bolton-le-Sands Library.
“This marks another important milestone in our programme to reopen libraries, and I look forward to reopening many more over the coming months.”
Lancashire County Council’s cabinet has so far made decisions to reopen 13 libraries, and agreed to transfer the ownership of a further six libraries to local organisations which will operate them as independent community libraries. The county council is continuing work towards reopening libraries in all of the areas where libraries were closed.
Opening times for Bolton-le-Sands Library are:
Monday 9am – 1pm
Wednesday 9am – 5pm
Thursday 9am – 7pm
Friday 9am – 5pm
Saturday 9am – 1pm
