Almost One in Five Young Northwest City Dwellers Has Never Seen a Horse In Real Life

Written by on 28/06/2022

New research conducted by Great British Racing demonstrates that almost one in five (16%) of 12-40 year olds living in cities in the North West have never seen, or can’t remember seeing, a horse ‘in person’; 21% have never been within two meters of horse, while 28% have never touched one.
Almost half (41%) of the North West’s city dwellers haven’t visited the countryside within the last year, while 7% have never visited, or can’t remember visiting.
The research, which also demonstrates that animals make people in the North West’s cities feel happy (84%) and that most (60%) would like to like to spend more time around them, supports the launch of National Racehorse Week: an annual celebration of the racehorse and a chance to see first-hand the love, care and attention that goes into looking after them.
From 10-18 September 2022, in an experience like no other, over 150 events across the country, including training yards, studs and retraining centres, will open their doors to the public to show what life as a racehorse is really like. Places are free and you can book tickets to attend now at nationalracehorseweek.uk.
Further information and research findings can be found attached, which includes a link to imagery – also attached below are two images of the racehorse Sigurd, who yesterday visited a residential care home and a secondary school in Yorkshire, giving some insight of what’s to come during National Racehorse Week.
