Activities for children and young people during the Easter school holidays

Written by on 19/03/2021

During the Easter holidays, online activities will be available for children and young people who usually receive a free school meal.

Known as the virtual Easter Discover Camp, it is for children and young people aged 4 to 16.

A specific programme for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) is also being created.

Funding for the Holiday Activities and Food Programme (HAF) has been provided from the government to Lancashire County Council.

The programme provides four hours per day per person, during one week at Easter and four weeks in the summer holidays.

County Councillor Phillippa Williamson, cabinet member for children, young people and schools, said: “We want as many children and young people as possible to benefit from the programme during the Easter holidays. Thanks to the funding we’ve received, it’s free for people to take part.

“A lot of this Easter programme will need to be online or using activity packs, due to the current Covid situation. But we’re planning to hopefully have more activities in the summer holidays where people can get together, especially outdoor activities.”

The county council will be working with a wide range of partners including district councils, third sector and private organisations to deliver the Lancashire HAF programme. This includes existing community and youth organisations including Youth Action, Street Games and SHARES Lancashire and the West Lancashire Sport Partnership.

Working with individual schools, parents/carers of people who usually receive a free school meal will be asked via their school to register to take part. Details will be provided direct to eligible people on what they need to do to sign up.
