Man arrested over ‘racial assault’ on Manchester City star Raheem Sterling

Police have arrested a man on suspicion of a racially aggravated assault against England footballer Raheem Sterling.
The Manchester City star was reportedly kicked and racially abused as he arrived at the club’s training ground on Saturday, just hours before he scored twice to help his side to a 4-1 demolition of Tottenham at the Etihad Stadium.
Greater Manchester Police said on Monday that they are treating the incident as a hate crime and officers have now arrested a 29-year-old man, who remains in custody for questioning.
Detective Chief Inspector Paul Walker, from GMP’s City of Manchester team, said: “Racism will not be tolerated in Greater Manchester and has no place in civilised society.
“We take every report incredibly seriously and any reports can be reported via the True Vision website report-it.org.uk.”
Kick It Out, football’s equality body, said it had been in touch with Sterling to offer him support.
