Kansas City Chiefs 42-34 Houston Texans: Undefeated Chiefs move to 5-0 for the season

Written by on 09/10/2017

Alex Smith threw for 324 yards and three touchdowns to help the Kansas City Chiefs remain undefeated with a 42-34 victory over the Houston Texans on Sunday night.

Houston QB Deshaun Watson threw for 261 yards and five touchdowns, the third of which got the Texans to within six points of the Chiefs early in the fourth quarter at NRG Stadium.

But, Smith then extended Kansas City’s lead to 32-20 on a 10-yard pass to De’Anthony Thomas, before Tyreek Hill padded the lead when he returned a punt 82 yards for a TD as a staggering 40 points were scored in the final quarter.

Earlier, Houston’s the three-time Defensive Player of the Year J.J. Watt broke his left leg. Watt was injured early in the first quarter, and the team later announced that he had sustained a tibial plateau fracture, but didn’t provide any details on how long he’ll be out.

Kansas City’s Charcandrick West caught two touchdown passes and Travis Kelce had eight receptions for 98 yards in the first half, but did not return after the break, with the Chiefs saying he was being evaluated for a concussion.

Kansas City rookie running back Kareem Hunt did not score but continued to impress, tallying 29 carries for 107 yards to give him four 100-yard rushing games in five to start the season.

The Chiefs (5-0) stay undefeated through five games, while the Texans (2-3) suffer their third defeat of the campaign.
