Consultation on Bluebird Flight

Posted on Friday, 21 November 2008

The Lake District’s most iconic water craft – the Bluebird jet powered hydroplane – may soon be able to speed along Coniston Water again if a public consultation is favourably received.

Members of the national park authority have agreed to ask for views on changing current rules which could allow trials for the craft to exceed the existing 10 mph speed limit on the lake.

The Craft made famous by its 7 world water speed records and immortalised by its final run that killed the British record breaker Donald Campbell.

The Authority decided consultation would be needed before considering the proposal, which would allow Bluebird to take part in high-speed trials on the lake.
