Three men sent to prison for Kendal shoplifting offences

Written by on 01/08/2017

Three men have been sentenced for shoplifting from two Kendal stores.

The following trio appeared at Carlisle Crown Court (on Friday, July 28th) after being found guilty of shoplifting at a trial on 15th June 2017 at South Lakes Magistrates Court.

– Christian Dumitru, 28, of Mortlake Road, Ilford;

– Marradona Constantin 27, of Wingrove Gardens, Newcastle;

– Germanas Stefan, 26, of Henly Road, Ilford.

All three were sentenced to 30 months in prison.

The sentencing follows offences committed on March 2nd, when the three defendants entered the Carphone Warehouse store in the Westmorland Shopping Centre. While one member of the gang distracted staff, others removed a security devices fitted to an Apple iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus and swapped this with a dummy phone.

They did the same later in the day at the Vodafone store in the same shopping centre, after which staff at the shop contacted police.

Analysis of CCTV showed the criminals leaving in a Ford Focus, and officers worked with colleagues from Cheshire Police to stop the vehicle in Cheshire, where the men were arrested for the Kendal offences. They were also found in possession of further fake Apple iPhones and tools to remove the security devices.

PC Robert Kerr, of Kendal Police, said: “This was a sophisticated incidence of shoplifting and it is believed that these three were responsible for similar crimes around the country.

“We regularly work with our colleagues to ensure that criminals are brought before the courts, and no matter where you attempt to flee following committing an offence, we will come together to catch you, as shown in this case. I welcome the Judge’s decision and am glad that these men have answered for their crimes.”
